MARCH 19 » ARRIVE LUSAKA
Plan to arrive in Lusaka on March 19. You will be met at the airport by a professional team member who will escort you to beautiful Latitude 15 where we will spend three nights surrounded by African art and lush grounds. That evening, after you’ve rested, we’ll share a welcome dinner and review our week’s itinerary.
MARCH 20 » LUSAKA
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll depart for meetings with local partners including representatives from the Ministry of Health, the National Malaria Elimination Centre, USAID, the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) PATH and others. We’ll share meals, stories, and experiences with our local Zambian partners as we explore Lusaka. Throughout the day, we’ll also learn some of the history and culture of Zambia with tourism professionals who will accompany us. Overnight Lusaka.
MARCH 21 » LUSAKA
We’ll begin the day in Lusaka by visiting more partners and a local hospital where malaria patients receive treatment. After lunch, we will head to beautiful Chaminuka Lodge and Wildlife Reserve where we will see local wildlife and have social time with local Rotarians and friends. We’ll head back to Lusaka for our final night at Latitude 15.
MARCH 22 » LUSAKA TO MPIKA
We’ll depart Lusaka early this morning for a long travel day, driving 8 hours to Mpika in the Muchinga Province. Along the way, we’ll have stops for lunch, sightseeing, and some light souvenir shopping. We’ll have dinner at our hotel and overnight in Mpika.
MARCH 23 » MPIKA
This will be an exciting day! You’ll see first-hand how Rotary-trained Community Health Workers are saving lives in their communities. We’ll visit Mpika where we will visit a health clinic and meet local caregivers and patients. It will be an interactive day with surprises along the way and an opportunity to celebrate the work that has been done to date. We’ll spend another night in Mpika.
MARCH 24 » MPIKA TO KASAMA
Today we’ll make a short 2 hour drive from Mpika to the remote town of Kasama in the Northern Province. Along the way, we’ll split into smaller groups and visit health clinics in the isolated areas surrounding Mpika with healthcare workers we met the day before. We’ll have the chance to see the work of Malaria Partners International up close, ask questions, and learn about the challenges facing this area. Overnight Kasama.
MARCH 25 » KASAMA TO LIVINGSTONE
Today we’ll wake up early to travel to the airport for a chartered flight from Kasama to Livingston, home of the spectacular Victoria Falls and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. Upon landing in Livingstone, we will explore wildlife and taking a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River with local Rotary friends. Keep your eyes open for crocodiles! We’ll spend tonight and the next night in Livingstone.
MARCH 26 » LIVINGSTONE
This will be a day of pure adventure! We’ll explore Livingstone’s culture, visit roaring Victoria Falls and have time to browse the market for souvenirs. We’ll end the day with a farewell dinner that includes local music, dancing and memory-making.
MARCH 27 » RETURN TO USA
With memories to cherish and new friends to stay in touch with, you’ll depart today for the USA or on to your next adventure. From Livingstone, you’ll fly out of either Lusaka or Johannesburg to return to the US.
